Type Application
REFLECTION
I started this typographic journey by exploring the diverse realm of font creation and application, which combined practical design with artistic expression. I started my journey by investigating typographic systems in Adobe InDesign and experimenting with different styles, such as Axial, Radial, and Grid. During this phase, I developed my design tool skills and gained an appreciation for various typographic expressions.
A noteworthy accomplishment was creating my "Mochi" project, which was motivated by my favourite snack and pet. It required colour selection, digitization, and sketching to create collateral items, such as tote bags and T-shirts. This project not only tested my creativity but also highlighted the value of iteration and feedback—two essential steps in the design process.
'Type Exploration and Application,' the last stage, was the most challenging and rewarding. I learned the nuances of type design from concept to digitalization with the "Paper Fold Font" using Adobe Illustrator and FontLab. This included maintaining uniform stroke, spacing, and the crucial harmony between readability and aesthetics. By using my typeface in various settings, I could highlight its adaptability and the significance of purpose-driven design.
These experiences taught me the value of a clear vision, the necessity of detail-oriented work, and the importance of adapting to feedback. The projects underscored the significance of understanding and applying design principles and tools to create impactful and cohesive visual identities. Reflecting on this journey, I realize design is not just about visual appeal; it's about functionality, purpose, and the story it tells. The knowledge and skills acquired will shape my future endeavours in graphic design and related fields.
