LECTURES
Week 6 / Lecture 6
No class this week due to Raya holiday
Week 7 / Lecture 7
As we all started on Task 2 this week, we got feedback from Mr Vinod
regarding our progress on Task 2.
Past Vs. Present Typography
Past
-Typography has only been considered alive after it reached the
page.
-Once a publication had been edited, typeset, and printed, it was
considered finished.
Present
Present
-Exists on a multitude of screens.
-Our experience of typography today changes based on how the page is
rendered because typesetting happens in browser.
Hyperlink / link
-A word, phrase, or image that you can click on to navigate to a new
document or new part within a current document.
Font size for screen
-16-pixel text on screen is about same size as text printed in a book or magazine.
-Books (reading a few inches away) usually at 10 points.
-Books (reading at arms length) ideally at 12 points.

TASKS
Week 6 / Typographic & Communication: Part 1
As soon as we were done with Task 1, we were told by our lecturer that we
could start Task 2, which is to typographically express a piece of text in
a 2-page editorial spread. Similarly to the previous, we can only use the
ten typefaces given to us, and we are allowed to use Adobe Illustrator and
InDesign only. In this task, we have to use the knowledge we got from the
previous task to complete the task. First, I watched the pre-recorded
lecture on what I should do and where I could get the materials. After
watching the video, I went to Facebook to find the materials and found it.
I decided to choose the first editorial text out of the three mainly
because more people chose the second and the third one. I wanted to be
different.
Visual Research
Before I start sketching the title, I decided to roam around the internet
looking for some inspirations for the layout. And here are some
inspirations I found in the internet.

Sketches
I do like all of the inspirations shown above, and to be honest, there
were many more good ones. It is not easy to come up with an original
layout, but after some thought, I have gotten three layout sketches I
made in Procreate. Here are the three layout sketches I made:

Digitization
After a few thoughts, I have decided to do the second layout as it
looks the most pleasing to me. But before I did the entire layout, I did the title in the Adobe
Illustrator and here is the result. And yes, it is split into two
that would be combine to one.

After I was done with the title, I transferred the title to
the Adobe InDesign to create my layout.

Week 7 / Typographic & Communication: Final Part
This week is the final week of task 2. Finally, I would need to
develop the final design of the layout with the proper settings
check. I have decided to use layout two from the previous week as
my final layout, but a few adjustments would be needed in the
layout.
Using Adobe InDesign, I have made the word "The" and "of Bauhaus
on modern culture" more enormous so the title would be
noticeable, and I have tweaked a few things for the lead-in text
to make it prominent and fitting to the layout.

After tweaking some stuff, such as putting kerning and spacing,
I changed the body text size, including the title and
sub-heading, added paragraph space, made sure it was left-align
and did the cross alignment.
Here is the final layout result:

FEEDBACKS
Week 6
No feedback as it was Raya Holiday.
Week 7
I found that my title font size was too small. I did not adjust the whole body text yet with kerning and spacing. I have not changed the body text size, nor do I check the number of characters per line. I have not done so much stuff yet, which I will do this week.
REFLECTION
Exercise 2: Typographic Exploration & Communication
Experience of the task
This was quite a task as we had to apply teachings taught to us from the previous task. If I am being, I didn't remember most of it, which resulted in me struggling to finish the task correctly, leading me to learn all the tricks all over again. I particularly like this task as it makes your creativity fly away, searching for an original layout idea to put up, able to explore all the ideas unlike the previous task, where we had to follow every step shown to us.
Observations of the task
It is not an easy task, and I can guarantee you that. Without the knowledge of editing editorial text, there would be no way to complete the task. If you were not paying attention, you would find it hard to finish this task or miss a very small important as every minor thing taught by the lecturer is essential.
Findings of the task
As I progressed through finishing the task, I found that amazing people created so many beautiful layouts out there. I find each of the layouts created fascinating, and now I know that they are the ones who do this magazine, newspaper, etc., layout as I was never aware of before. And as I completed the task, I noticed I had expanded my knowledge of how to use Adobe InDesign and Illustrator. Let me tell you, I was seriously a total beginner at the start and now I have learned, so any tips and tricks from Mr Vinod and I am delighted. I would indefinitely use these techniques to use in the future.
