LECTURES

Week 4 // 19.09.2022

Lecture 4: Project 1 Part 1
This week's class was online. In last week's class, I remember we were tasked to create a digital collage that we would be showing him in this week's class. But I didn't do it yet. This week we learned about Kinetic Typography. Kinetic typography is an animation technique that uses moving text to capture attention, set a tone, and entertain. We were also briefed on the first Technical And Motion Graphics Sensibilities project.

Week 5 // 26.09.2022

Lecture 5: Project 1 Final Part
Mostly a progression check of Project 1; we also learned animation techniques this week to help us with our current and future projects. There are four great animation techniques: exploding graphics, repeated objects, line animations, and duplicated objects.

To start off, we are tasked with creating multiple principles. To be specific, the other four principles as there are a total of 8, but the first four were done by Mr. Fauzi. These are Symmetry, Focus, Scale, and Rhythm.

Before I started compositing the other four principles, I rewatched the tutorials given by Mr. Fauzi throughout the week to get a sense of how to compose the principles in After Effects, as I am a beginner when it comes to using After Effects. After a while, I begin compositing the other four principles starting from Symmetry to Rhythm.

4. Symmetry

First up is Symmetry; I still needed to learn what to do for Symmetry and tried various ideas. Trial and error steps. I wasn't used to using After Effects, but I got the hang of it after a while. I finally juggled an idea which was Tetris. It is like a show of two people competing in Tetris and ending up in the same move. And repeat.

5. Focus
The first thought that came to mind for the Principle Focus was Sniper Scope. Because you need immense focus, look through the scope to kill your target. Hence I went to create a scope figure composition for Principle Focus.

7. Scale
I wanted to make a scale as in the animal scale at first for the Principle Scale, but then I ended up changing the size continuously for the animation. Squares and Circles are probably the most common shape in this category, so I used Rectangles instead. It took me a quick 5 minutes to finish it compared to others at the beginning (since I wasn't used to After Effects at the time).

8. Rhythm
Not sure how to explain it, but as for the Principle of Rhythm, I was inspired by a retro game called Space Invaders. I didn't want to complicate things for the Principle rhythm, so I kept it simple. Here is the result.

Week 5 // 26.09.2022

Project 1: Technical And Motion Graphics Sensibilities Part 2

In the second part of Project 1, we needed to make a remix out of the composition that we have and made. This seems interesting to me because there are new things to learn. My idea for the composition remix is to find a classic retro game soundtrack to put into the remix. After a while of searching, I found a classic Tetris soundtrack from 1984. I made a few adjustments and all to the compositions to match the sound. And here is the result:

REFLECTION

Project 1: Technical And Motion Graphics Sensibilities

I use After Effect sparingly and am a complete beginner at it. I watched a couple of videos to learn even the most basic skills in After Effects. It took me a long time to develop the idea and do it all together. I used some techniques learned from videos Mr. Fauzi gave in this project. I am glad about that, or it will take me a long time to finish my project. Despite the struggles, the first project was fun overall, and I am definitely hyped for the next one (hopefully not too hard).
