Project 1: Instructable Poster (Part 1)
For our first project, we had to create an instructable poster from one recipe found on the Pasta Grannies Youtube channel. Pasta Grannies is a Youtube channel of grannies making food with their recipes. And we have to choose one to make into a poster.
YouTube Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@pastagrannies/videos
I looked through the channel, and each video caught my attention. That was an easy pasta that's made with purslane pesto. Purslane pesto is a condiment with a slightly bitter flavor that is rich in properties and can be used for dip sauce, pasta sauce, or a base for pizza. But in this case, it is used as a pasta sauce.
Why I chose this? Because it can be made easily for a student like me. As a student, I don't have the luxury of spending hours making food, so this was an excellent choice. It's simple and efficient, and to add on, it tastes great. Who doesn't love it?

I tried watching the video a couple of times to fully understand the video. So to start with the project, I would like to break down the video into three categories and type down the notes I got from the video. Those are the introduction, ingredients used, and steps taken to complete the product.
Introduction
At the start of the video, an old lady, Luciana, who lives in Formellino, introduced herself. And mentioned in the video that she will be making Minestra Schianteda with Purslane Pesto. She also showed her garden, where she's growing wild herbs. And that she will be using it for the video. Fun facts about he is that she loves wild herbs and is a lecturer at a university for senior citizens.
Ingredients
Minestra Schianteda (pasta)
- 180g 0 or plain flour
- 2 medium eggs
Purslane Pesto (sauce)
- 75g young purslane leaves
- scant 100g walnuts (or another nut)
- 1/4 garlic clove
- 2 tablespoons grated Parmigiano cheese
- 1/2 lemon, squeezed
- salt
- black pepper
Steps
1. Distribute the flour on the board.
2. Insert two eggs into the dough.
3. Scramble the eggs.
4. Mix the eggs with the flour.
5. Knead it until the dough is not too hard or soft.
6. Rest the dough for 30 minutes in plastic wrap.
7. Takes out the root of purslane.
8. Wash the purslane.
9. Cut it into pieces with a knife.
10. Mix it in a hand mixer with an already cut 100 grams of walnut, salt, black pepper, squeezed lemon juice, and some olive oil.
11. Adds a couple tablespoon of parmesan to the mix.
12. Mix it with some garlic clove paste once it has a crunchy look.
13. Put salts into the water.
14. Boil the water.
15. Roll the dough flat.
16. Dry the flat dough for 2 hours to become pasta.
17. Break it into bite-size pieces.
18. Drop the pasta into the salted water.
19. Stir it around so it won't stick.
20. Spread the pesto sauce on a plate.
21. Scoops the pasta and puts it onto the plate.
22. Spread another pesto sauce on the pasta.
23. Finally, mix the pasta with the pesto sauce.
I was figuring out how to design the Poster, so I looked for inspiration and reference posters online. After scrolling and searching the internet, I found a couple that caught my eye, and I wanted them to look simple, not too complicated.

I would use these color templates for the Poster. The reasoning behind it is that, in the video, there are three primary colors, those are light brown (the walls of the kitchen), grey-green (sauce), and amber-yellow (pasta) that I could imagine using. And it matches the theme of the video.

I took out my Procreate and started sketching the designs I could create for the Poster. I look back at the references I took to get ideas and even re-watch the video to get more ideas, maybe a unique one for the video recipe.
As I got more time to think about the design, why not keep it simple instead of thinking hard to make it look unique? Here is the sketch I came out with for the instructable Poster:

After rough sketching the instructable Poster's look, I went straight to touching it up, as in cleaning it up, so it looked better. Here is the clean-up version:

I colored it up after this. As I was coloring the Poster, it looked plain, so I added extra details to make it look better. It was relatively easy to put extra details into it, so here is the final look at the instructable Poster.

Part 2 of Project 1: Instructable Poster; we have to make an animation for the Poster we made in part 1. Without further ado, I started by sketching all the ingredients, tools, and whatever was needed for the animation.

REFLECTION
Project 1: Instructable Poster
I have never created a poster before, especially not a recipe. This experience was relatively new to me. And I took time learning going through it. There are a few lessons that I have learned: visual information on the poster can be much more appealing to the audience compared to information full of words on the poster as it is much easier to process to the brain. Putting it bluntly on the poster is not good enough; a visual poster must have an excellent flow to look engaging and pleasant because it can be confusing without it. In conclusion, visually instructable posters are much more practical and better comp-are to notes.
