PROJECT

Project 2: Shooting Practise & Editing
Project 2 is going to consist of shooting & editing practising. It's split into two parts, Project 2A and Project 2B; Tikto Video and Production Shoot.

Project 2A: Tiktok Video
In Project 2a, we are tasked with making a TikTok video. The title is "A Day In Campus". We have to record our' day on the campus. However, we want. A few tipis given to us from the slide Mr Martin. We can use transitions, timelapse, VFX, props, etc., to make the video more appealing.

We were given a PowerPoint to describe ourselves, explain ideas and mood boards that represent ourselves. Which is why I will be starting by filling that up first. I turned it into PDF so I could put here down below.

I recorded many short videos as I went to Taylor's for my classes. I went to a few other places I wouldn't usually go to record a few more videos. I went out and recorded about 40 short videos on that day itself. When I reached home, I started by picking the videos I wanted to use for my Tiktok video and saving them in my Google Drive.

I opened Adobe Premier Pro and added the music of my choice, including the intro first, into Adobe Premier Pro. I immediately imported the videos I had picked earlier into Adobe Premier Pro.

As the music was three minutes long, I had to cut it until it became one minute long. It's pretty simple, as the music has the same rhythm/beat going on at the start and the end, so I could cut it into one minute long without it sounding off. I then added the videos altogether.

A few more adjustments were made to the videos that were added, so they could match the music that had been added. And finally, I added colour grading to make it look slightly better.

Project 2B: Production Shoot
Fortunately for me, we were all split into different groups in this project. I was thrown into the same group as Ben and Joan. They're the only two I have talked to throughout the whole lesson.

A bit of a game where you draw a paper, we would know which scene we are doing for this project. In this project, we are tasked to work as a group to recreate the scene we have got from the paper drawing lots. We have got ourselves Project S, a Japanese drama called Silent. Where there were two lovers, and one day the boy just disappeared.

We then assigned roles amongst ourselves and decided on a group name (I got the actor role, unfortunately). Here are the details:

Project: S
Group Name: Silent Treee Productions
Producer: Koh Sin Yi (Gina)
Director: Rachel Madeline
Assistant Director 1: Sheryl Anusree
Assistant Director 2: Tee Jia Ern
Art Director: Sheryl Anusree

D.O.P: Joan Chiam
Camera Assistant 1: Tee Jia Ern
Camera Assistant 2: Benjamin Ng CHiI WEN
Location Sound: Yap Wai Kei
Boom Operator: Benjamin Ng

Actor 1: Lim Xinyi
Actor 2: Emran Tarek Sayed

After roles were given to each of us, we made a WhatsApp group to keep each of us updated. I looked through the original trailer and the storyboard before the day of our shoot, so I knew what to expect as I was one of the actors.

The day of the shooting itself was a pretty smooth ride. There weren't many problems besides one of the shoots having a microphone in it, but it was fixed with the help of Mr Martin. Here are a few photos of the shoot.

It was a wonderful experience. Anyway, more videos, sounds, photos, and details are in the link below.

Moving on, after we are done with the shoot, we are tasked to edit the shoot, too, but it's an individual part of the project. We have to edit our own version using all the materials from the shoot itself.

As usual, I started by looking through the videos and sounds I wanted to use and importing them into Adobe Premier Pro.

I then cut and arranged the videos, similar to the original trailer. Afterwards, I would sync the sounds with the videos I arranged. I tried to use the method from a tutorial video by Mr Martin to sync, but I couldn't sync all the sounds. So after a while of trying and searching for different methods, I finally synchronised the sounds with the videos manually.

The final two steps would be putting the right music for the video and colour-grading it. The colour-grading itself wasn't a problem, but getting the right music took me a bit of time as there is little music as short as the video. I did a final adjustment to the whole thing, such as putting effects to make the video more pleasing.

REFLECTIONS

Project 2: Shooting Practise & Editing

Project 2A: Tiktok Video
I enjoyed making a Tiktok video as it's a more straightforward project than others. You can do any content you want, as long as the theme is "A Day In Campus. It took me only a day to finish shooting small videos using my phone and then a little bit of editing in Adobe Premiere Pro. Although it's easy, I had trouble finding the right music for the video and cutting it so it matches the video. But other than that, colour grading, shooting the videos, and arranging the videos were a smooth transition for me.

Project 2B: Production Shoot
Production shoot is a project where we have to work together as a team to replicate the original trailer that was given by Martin. The shooting was not as difficult, as it didn't take long to finish shooting all the scenes. The problematic part comes during editing the video, as it is an individual task for everyone. I had no problem arranging the video according to its rightful places, but synching the audio proved difficult. I kept getting an error while syncing the audio with the video. I figured out a different way to sync the audio with the video. Another challenge was finding the right music in the background, as the videos are short and most music is long. Other than that, colour grading was easy. And overall, the video is fine, but I am confident I could do better if I put more effort and had more time.
